BENEFITS

Good health is so much more than the absence of disease. We all have the right to feel vibrant, healthy and have lots of energy to enjoy our lives to the full. However many of us are plagued by health issues and lack of energy.

This is where Nutritional Therapy comes in. The fundamental health of your body is reliant on the foods you eat, and also your ability to digest and absorb vital nutrients from that food. Nutritional Therapy uses changes to diet and lifestyle, along with safe supplementation where suitable, to help bring about profound changes to your health. We will look at introducing key nutrients into your diet and will also assess if any foods may be having a negative impact on your health and symptoms. Nutritional Therapy aims to identify and address the root cause of illness and to help you attain optimum health via optimum nutrition. Nutritional Therapy can enable you to take charge of your health!

Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach to health and is not a 'quick fix'. However, with your commitment, very positive changes can be made. After all, it has probably taken you many years to develop nagging health problems, and therefore restoring you on the path to full health, will also take some time and commitment.

The ethos of No Nonsense Nutrition is all about realistic changes to your diet that fit easily into your life. We will agree changes that you are comfortable with that build gradually, to move you towards a better and better diet, and therefore better and better health.

Nutritional therapy may help with the following

Allergies, food intolerances & digestive problems

Do you suffer from bloating, wind, constipation or diarrhea? Do you have a skin condition such as eczema, or allergies to perfumes, chemicals or dust mites? Often these problems are exacerbated by eating, or over-eating, certain foods groups, typically wheat and dairy. By looking at your symptoms and diet we can try to establish if removing or adding in certain foods groups may help you to feel better. An elimination diet or food intolerance test can also be discussed to help bring your body back into balance.

Arthritis

Do you have stiff, painful or inflamed joints? This inflammatory and painful condition may be helped by following a diet to help reduce inflammation and also by using carefully selected supplements to help support your body.

Asthma and eczema

Do you rely on using an inhaler for asthma, or steroid creams to control itchy and painful skin? By assessing your diet and lifestyle it may be possible to reduce your reliance on these medications (under the guidance of your GP), and help establish the root cause of the problem

ADD/ADHD

Has your child been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD? Children can respond quickly to dietary changes which may help to improve concentration, memory, learning and behaviour. A diet high in sugar and low in fruits and vegetables may negatively impact on this condition. Research indicates the use of essential fatty acids and probiotics, with improvements in diet, may significantly help children diagnosed with this disorder.

Depression, stress and anxiety

Do you battle with low mood, feeling anxious for no reason, or feel that life is getting on top of you? We do not always make the link between how what we eat affects how we feel emotionally. However by addressing poor diet (such as high intake of sugar and processed food) and nutrient deficiencies, you may be able to have better control over your emotions, and feel better equipped to deal with life’s stresses and strains.

Pre-menstrual or menopausal symptoms

Do you have food cravings before your period? And does your mood significantly alter before and during your period? Do you have hot flushes and night sweats? The health of our hormonal system, and how your body copes with hormonal changes each month, or during the menopause, may be helped by taking certain foods out of your diet and adding healthier alternatives back in. Supporting the liver is also vital for any hormonal imbalance. Herbs and supplements can be especially useful in helping to solve these conditions

Fertility and preconception

Are you having problems becoming pregnant? Have you suffered from a miscarriage? Or do you simply want to give your baby the best possible start in life? So many nutritional and lifestyle factors can influence our ability to conceive and have a healthy and successful pregnancy. It is vital for both partners to be in optimum health before planning a pregnancy, so why not get some professional advice and help with this important stage of life.

Frequent infections

Do you get every cold going? Does it always go to your chest? Have you had frequent courses of antibiotics? If this sounds like you, you may find that your immune system needs some TLC. The immune system requires such a wide variety of nutrients to function optimally (especially antioxidants – are you getting enough?), that what you eat can significantly impact its ability to help you stay well. For example sugar depresses the immune system, and having plenty of zinc and vitamin C is especially important for the immune system.

Headaches and migraines

Do migraines put you to bed for 1 to 2 days? Do you wake up with a headache most mornings, or have a headache most days? Addressing nutrients imbalances and possible food intolerances, may help to get rid of that daily headache or decrease the frequency with which you have a migraine.

High blood pressure and cholesterol

Do you know your blood pressure is high? Has your recent cholesterol test showed elevated levels of cholesterol? Having normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels is so vital for the health of your heart, that bringing these two factors back under control may help to reduce your risk of heart attack in later life. There are so many myths about cholesterol and diet and conflicting information. Why not try to reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol by natural means, with a diet designed for your personal needs?

Insomnia

Do you have trouble getting to sleep, or staying asleep? Sleeping tablets do work, but it may be that you have become reliant on them to fall asleep. By addressing the underlying cause of your sleeplessness, over time you may experience better quality and longer sleep. Sleep is so vital for your emotional and physical health (it is the time when the body repairs itself), that if you have had a prolonged period of insomnia you are likely to be feeling the impact with other niggling health problems developing.

Low energy, chronic fatigue or ME

Have you been diagnosed with ME or CFS? Or do you feel you have no energy to live your life as you wish to? This complex and difficult condition requires bringing the body slowly and carefully back into balance, addressing both physical and emotional needs. The underlying cause/s may be different for each person, however a clean and healthy diet is the best start to help your body and mind to heal itself.

Memory problems

Do you forget things more often that you used to? Have difficulty remembering names, places or events? Have you had a diagnosis of early dementia or Alzheimer’s? The brain requires a fine balance of the correct fats and nutrients to function correctly. These fats are often deficient in the modern diet, and addressing any nutritional imbalances may greatly help to improve your memory or slow the progress of disease.

Osteoporosis

Are you concerned that your bone health may have been affected by poor lifestyle in your youth (alcohol, smoking, high fat or sugar diet, lack of exercise?), or do you want to do the best by your bones for later life? Have you been diagnosed with osteoporosis, or does it run in your family? Factors such as low intake of calcium, vitamin D and boron, a high protein diet and drinking soft drinks may be detrimental to the health of your bones. Find out the best way to eat to either help prevent or slow bone loss.

Skin conditions

Do you have dry, flaky skin? Or are you oily and prone to spots or acne? The health of the skin of your face and body, can really influence how you feel about yourself and whether you have good self-esteem. After all your face is what you present to the world each day. Whilst a good skin care regime is necessary, tackling skin problems needs to be two-fold, as the health of the skin is very much determined by what you eat and drink, and by what you put into your body. High stress levels, with the accompanying stress hormones, also affects your skin. Are you getting enough of the key nutrients your skin really needs? Do you need to be looking after your liver a bit more to help your skin? Find out in your consultation.

Weight management

Do you feel like you have been ‘on a diet’ your whole life? Do you try the newest fad diet, only to regain weight once you return to normal eating? Are you fed up with depriving yourself? Do you feel too thin, and are unable to gain weight no matter what you eat? The key to achieving and maintaining your healthy weight is to find a way to eat for life, which suits your lifestyle and biochemical needs, and is one that you enjoy eating. It may be that you are not over or under eating but have an imbalance in the body (for example, low thyroid or adrenal function) which is making it more difficult for your body to lose or gain weight. Stop yo-yo dieting and find the diet to help you not only achieve your optimum weight, but also optimum health.
